Mike & Diana Engagement Session| Lawrence, KS

These two are some of my favorite people on the planet. When we were deciding where to shoot their engagement photos downtown Lawrence was our first choice.

Mike and Diana live near downtown and have worked and played their for many years. We began in South Park and stopped at a few places along the way. Some were planned, break at the Red Lyon for a quick beer, and some were discovered along the way.

I was especially excited to find a new spot near Bon Bon and the new Lawrence Arts District that has so many possibilities for cool photos.

It was a really fun evening and I can’t wait for their wedding!

Brittney’s Senior 2018, Autumn KU Campus

Sunday was dreary, chilly and overcast here in Lawrence. Sounds like a perfect day to shoot photos. A lot of photographers would have rescheduled but I LOVE an overcast day for portraits. You see the clouds reflect light and act as a giant soft box. Without harsh shadows the beautiful popping colors and even tones bring the Autumn colors to life. Even though it was a bit chilly, Brittney was up for anything and we got some really awesome photos. I love her fierceness and her confidence yet her softer side came through in these images. She is a force.

The Colors of #LFK |Trina Baker Photography

I popped into downtown Lawrence this afternoon to run a few quick errands and noticed the amazing colors that seemed to be everywhere. I shot these photos with my iPhone 8 Plus in portrait mode and edited with the VSCO app.

The iPhone 8 Plus uses two cameras in this mode. A 12mp wide angle lens and a 12mp telephoto lens. The telephoto lens is what actually captures the image. While it’s doing that, the wide-angle lens is busy capturing data about how far away the subject is, which it then uses to create a nine-layer depth map. You have five modes of light to choose from, natural, studio, contour, stage and stage mono. You can even edit the light mode after you take the shot. Cool, right?

I Love the shallow depth of field I get with this mode. The specs say it’s an f1.8 equivalent. Even though you have to shoot in the standard 4:3 format, you can always crop square. It has definitely become my go to mode.

What Can You Do In 20 Minutes?| Trina Baker Photography

Recently I have been thinking about what one could accomplish in 20 minutes. Specifically, could I shoot a photo session in 20 minutes and achieve quality images that meet my clients needs. For the last two weekends I have offered these mini sessions as a trial run and the results were awesome! My clients love the idea because they can fit it into their busy weekends. I love it because I can offer my services to more clients while giving them quality photos.

The family below were one of my guinea pigs for these sessions. They wanted family photos with their daughter before the new baby arrives. It was perfect for them! We have already booked another session a few months after the baby arrives. They would rather have three smaller sessions a year than one longer session to document their family.

While I will still offer my full sessions, I am going to offer these 20 Minute sessions seasonally. If you want to be notified about these sessions simply sign up for my mailing list. I promise not to bug you too often!😊

Autumn is coming to Kansas. The days are getting shorter and the light is amazing right now. I went out for a walk to see what I could find in the changing Landscape. I found som really pretty things 🙂  These were shot with my Nikon D800, Lensbaby Edge80 optic then edited in Photoshop with ASE6. I am loving the Kodak Faded preset mixed with a bit of light filter. So pretty! Trina Baker Photography Portraits

Dried Roses|Trina Baker Photography

I spotted these dried roses on my work table and was smitten by the colors so of course I had to take some photos. I ran the Simple Cream, GeorgiaPeach and Silk Blend actions from MCP along with some of her Mood Ring overlays that were also included in this set. Love the subtle matte tones these actions can create. I then added some linen textures from 2 Lil’ Owls Studio to gove the images a vintage feel.  It’s always a good day when I have time to play in my studio.  Click on the images to see them in my shop!

Winter Color | Trina Baker Photography

Cabin fever had set in with the Artic Vortex in full blast for the past couple of days. Today it was in the mid 30’s and I just had to get out of the house and take some photos. I was amazed by all of the splahes of color I found on my quick walk.  I took these with my Nikon D800 and my 85mm lens.  My intention was to edit them in black and white but then I ran the Epic action from MCP’s Inspire collection and the color just popped.  I love these actions because they are quite versitile and allow me to use my artisic painting skills to make the photos unique. These images are also available in the shop. Stay warm and fuzzy!

Matte Wetlands| Trina Baker Photography

I haven’t done any personal shooting in a few weeks. Today I ventured out on a chilly Kansas day to take some photos of the wetlands. I wanted to experiment with some matte finish black and white images. Trying to capture the essence of the day, I think these photos work with the matte look I was going for.  The black and white combined with the tilt shift of the Lensbaby is also a neat look. Sometimes it’s good to play, experiment and grow as a photographer.  All of these images are available in my shop. Simply click on the photo and away you go!

Autumn In Kansas| Trina Baker Photography

I went out on a short jaunt through Prairie Park today.  I was hoping to find bits of Autumn in my favorite field and I wasn’t disappointed.  Lovely hues of red and yellow were about everywhere I looked. I edited these images with Kodak Porta UV from VSCO Film and then added a bit of RadLab to give them some drama.  I love all of the bokeh I was able to capture with my Lensbaby with Edge 80.  Autumn is my favorite time of year so be prepared for leaf overload 🙂

Kansas Landscapes| Trina Baker Photography

Just a quick share of my little part of the world here in lovely Lawrence, Kansas.  Autumn is upon us and nature is beginning to show her colors.  I took these photos while driving my trusty Jeep around on the back roads puling off to the ditch to capture the beauty.  On my next adventure I want to find some proper Kansas Barns so stay tuned!
