I popped into downtown Lawrence this afternoon to run a few quick errands and noticed the amazing colors that seemed to be everywhere. I shot these photos with my iPhone 8 Plus in portrait mode and edited with the VSCO app.
The iPhone 8 Plus uses two cameras in this mode. A 12mp wide angle lens and a 12mp telephoto lens. The telephoto lens is what actually captures the image. While it’s doing that, the wide-angle lens is busy capturing data about how far away the subject is, which it then uses to create a nine-layer depth map. You have five modes of light to choose from, natural, studio, contour, stage and stage mono. You can even edit the light mode after you take the shot. Cool, right?
I Love the shallow depth of field I get with this mode. The specs say it’s an f1.8 equivalent. Even though you have to shoot in the standard 4:3 format, you can always crop square. It has definitely become my go to mode.
My iPad has quickly become my mobile editor of choice when I am out shooting. I have five go to apps that add drama and flair to my images. VSCO is the first app I open. It has some amazing film stocks and the editor is quite good as well. I love that you get a live preview of the filters and you can control the intensity of the filters as well.
After VSCO I take my image into The Mextures app. From this app I can choose from over 150 textures to add to my photos. Complete with unlimited layers and the ability to change the opacity of those layers, it is a pretty powerful app. You can save your “formulas” share and import them on social media.
Another favorite texture app I use is Stackables. Quite similar to Mextures with the addition of layer masks. Easy to use interface and pre loaded formulas. A really solid app.
Diptic is my favorite collage app. I use this app to add text to images and make collages of social media sharing. Easy to use and loads of extra features.
Lastly I love WordSwag. This app allows me to add fancy text to my photos. It even has a quote generator and a searchable database of patterns and photos if you want to use them.
So there you have it. I use a lot of other apps to process my photos but these are my favorite and I use them on almost every photos I edit. The iPad is a fun tool and is getting more powerful with every version.
Busy weekend her in super hot LFK. Saw the Reverend Horton Heat and Piñata Protest on Thursday. Thursday is the weekend, right? Today I went to the Hot Rod Hullabaloo to see some amazing classic cars and listen to some live tunes in South Park. We are also having our annual Buskerfest this weekend. A busy weekend indeed!
I got my Lensbaby mobile lens this week and I love it! It’s really great to have the Lensbaby in my pocket ready to capture and embrace the blur at a moments notice. The lens was part of a Kicstarter campaign and will be available for purchase later this year. Here are some of my favorite images from this week edited with the VSCO app.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
There were beautiful blue skies here in Kansas today. I couldn’t resist taking some quick photos of this lovely, white blooming tree in my neighbor’s back yard. Edited with a new iPhone app, PicTapGo and my new iPhone5, I love how bright and crisp these images are. This app is an amazing buy for 99 cents. It allows you to add filters, control the amount of each filter and share on social networks. Made by the creators of RadLab, it has some really awesome, yet simple, editing tools.
The sun is out and it is slightly warmer today and the lingering snow is melting. Just a quick look of the alley being thawed out. I edited these with VSCO CAM app app for iPhone. Love the faded black and white look.
We finally got a substantial snow storm yesterday. 10 inches of fluffy white snow coated everything. Today I was bold enough to step out with my iPhone and take some photos. I love the stark contrast of shadows against white snow. Edited with the VSCO app and cropped in Snapseed, I really like the look of these black and white images. Sometimes I am always amazed what can be accomplished with my iPhone and a few apps. Have a groovy weekend!
It’s a new year and my app hiatus is over. I have downloaded a couple of new apps lately but my newest love is Image Blender. It allows you to blend two images together. I liked the idea of taking my landscape photos and blending them with architecture. Love this app and the results.
