Spring Magnolias | Trina Baker Photography

These pretty Spring Magnolias were just begging me to photograph them. Luckily I had my trusty camera with me. Unfortunately, I only had my 85mm lens and not my favorite Lensbaby. I was little upset that I didn’t have it with me but decided that i should accept challenge and shoot with the lens I had. The 85mm lens was divine. I shot at f2.8 and bumped up my ISO to about 800 to adjust for the overcast day. I edited these in two different ways, stark and a matte finish. I like both for different reasons. Which do you like better? Hope you have a groovy day!

Golden Christmas Hearts

I was downtown and took som quick photos of the Christmas lights. The Lensbaby with the heart shaped aperture disc was perfect for these shots. I simple love the effect. Happy weekend!

Japanese Friendship Garden

A few quick photos from my visit to the Japanese Friendship Garden here in Lawrence, Kansas.  This garden was built to honor the 10 year anniversary of Lawrence’s relationship with its sister city, Hiratsuka, Japan.  It is a wonderful place to be quiet and enjoy the lovely Peony blooms in the Spring.  There are also some beautiful Iris in the garden as well.

Purple Spring Iris

I found these three Purple Spring Iris blooming in my backyard today. I decided to clip them and bring them inside to take photos.  I used my Lensbaby Composer with the Double Glass Optic. It has been a couple of months since I have used this optic and I had forgotten how much I like the effect. The focus is more circular than the the slice of focus you get with the Edge 80 which gives the images a super sharp sweet spot. I edited these with the Classic Color action from Florabella combined with the Vintage Wash and Sweet Tea enhancers.  I love how clean the edit is even though it has a slight vintage feel.  My new Nikon F100 film camera was delivered this week and I am excited to shoot some film images with the Lensbaby.

Downtown Lawrence at Night

Just a quick share of photos taken last night with my Lensbaby and the Soft Focus Optic. I think I need the creative aperture kit!

Artistic Berries

I found these purple berries and really wanted to photograph them with some amazing bokeh behind them. I got a little carried away with the lens blur of my lensbaby, however, I think it works.  I edited them images in Photoshop using RadLab, then added some texture using Chasing Dreams amazing artist textures in their Tour of Europe collection. These textures are bold, colorful and not for the faint of heart. I used the Monet, Pissaro and Delacroix textures and I love how different they are. I love how they emulate the look of film by adding that extra element to the image that gives it warmth and soul.

Faux Polaroid Transfers

Rita over at The CoffeeShop Blog has a really cool Polaroid transfer kit that is free to download. The kit comes complete with a Photoshop Action, Polaroid clipping mask and textured papers. She even has a tutorial if you don’t want to use the action.  Here are a few examples that I made today. The first one was made with the tutorial and I used the action on the others.  There really isn’t a difference except the action takes no time at all. So fun & super easy. If you like the look of these you should head over and download it.

Dreamy Bokeh Fields

I edited some images with the LensLight app this weekend and I loved the charming heart bokeh effect.  Unfortunately, because I downloaded them from flickr to my iPhone the were not very large and can only be printed in a 5×5 size.  So went in search of some bokeh textures to use in Photoshop so I can offer a few more of these images in a larger size. They are a bit more subtle, however, I still like the effect.

I was out on a portrait shoot yesterday and I spied these amazing butterflies flitting around the park.  This particular butterfly is called the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio glaucus. Thank you google. The wingspan of this creature is around 3-5 inches and it is quite common in this area. Happy butterfly day.

p.s. Both of these photos are available in the shop.

Sunset Bokeh

Just a quick post of a couple of  photos I took last night on my way to work.  I used the 100 camera app and a new app called LensLight to add the bokeh. You can read a review about the app over at LifeinLofi.  I think the bokeh adds a bit of whimsy to the images. Happy Thursday!

Crazy Exploding Bokeh!

I was taking photos of the fireworks on Saturday and then I decided to take video of the finale. First off, I will tell you that this was the first time I had put the camera in video mode. I began to shoot and forgot to focus. Ooops! Of course I love the bokeh and just keep shooting.  I think my brain is just constantly out of focus. Enjoy!
